Dennis Phillipe is a deaf retired senior citizen who lives in the Southeast MA area with his wife. Dennis came to DEAF, Inc. for technology support. In fact, his journey started back during the COVID-19 lockdown when he called us for help because he wanted to learn how to use Zoom. With ARES’ assistance, Dennis was able to upgrade his computer to Windows 10 and learned about free webcam apps he can use on his computer, using his iPhone as a webcam with the USB connect method.

Since 2020, Dennis has been learning new technology terms and how to use technology to his benefit, especially during Bible Study on Zoom with his friends. Dennis is grateful that he is able to pick up on these new technology skills at his age.

More recently, Dennis used ARES’ services to help him navigate buying a new laptop with a built in webcam. He was pleasantly surprised that he could customize his laptop to his preferences that benefitted his limited vision and deafness, especially at nighttime. He was delighted to learn that his laptop is touch screen which means he doesn’t need to rely on using the mouse and he can use his fingers to open apps or move things around on the screen.

Dennis is able to use his knowledge from ARES’ services and apply them to his daily routine when using his laptop, and using the Zoom app for socializing.
